Reaching the Resistant

These notes are from the C.S. Lewis Institute presentation from Jane Harmon, who met with former atheists asking them about their journey.

Who is God?

  • harmless irrational projection of psychological need
  • embarrassing belief
  • uncaring / absent in the lives of those who believe

What is Christianity?

  • dangerous religious sect
  • man made religion
  • judgmental, intolerant
  • not relevant
  • false, superstitious ideology
  • stereotypically ridiculous
63% of the atheists questioned said no evidence would convince them otherwise. Average age atheism is adopted is 15.

Availability is the key and avoid stereotypes.

It's too easy to view people as nothing more than a collective set of arguments that must be defeated instead of another human being (imageo deo) who is deeply longing to understand their wordlview just like we are.
They are people, not a problem.
