Withstanding the Enemy

I wonder in the midst of living how often I lose sight of this simple truth: God isn't going to allow us to prosper entertaining sin.

Judges 2:14-15
"So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies"

God had given specific commands to Israel to rid themselves of every snare all of the 'Ites tried to bring forth. In so many cases, Israel simply failed to be obedient.

"Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress."

That is me. So, the strength to withstand the assault of the enemies of God isn't there. We weaken ourselves in battle by disobedience. Willful disobedience. So discouraging.

Of course, God's mercies are brand new and his compassion fails not; yet we cannot forget the sowing and reaping principle. It's inescapable and for that, God be merciful.
